Books for Pride

Pride Week is coming up in Toronto.  The top event is always the pride parade, which draws more than a million (yes, a million) spectators and participants, making it one of the largest in the world.  It’s a big deal around here.

I want to do a Pride themed book display, and I’d love to get some ideas.  I would prefer to stay with current titles, as opposed to Oscar Wilde.  A good example would be Born to Be Bradby Brad Goreski.   Suggestions?

  1. An obvious one to represent lesbians is Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson (or almost anything by Winterson actually). Another good sapho themed book which is very new is The Raven’s Heart by Jesse Blackadder – its about the rule of Mary Queen of Scots and a cross-dressing young woman who falls in love with her.

    • Thanks! I’m trying to mix biography, fiction, and non-fiction. The bio/non-fiction is relatively easy, but fiction can be a bit tricky. I’ve got Black Blade Blues by J.A. Pitts, the latest John Irving… trying to be balanced so that there’s something for everyone.
